Advice from the Masters: William Zinsser (in memoriam)

May 20, 2015 | Better Writing

William Zinsser was the writing coach all of us writing coaches want to become. If you’re serious about your writing, his book, On Writing Well should be read over and over.

Zinsser died last week at the age of 92. He did two important things in his lifetime. He inspired many of us to strive for excellence when we write. That might have been sufficient, but he took it one step further and gave us a way to know how to achieve the excellence we sought.

I’ve shared two bits of his master’s advice on this blog. One was on writing for the ear. The other was on the importance of re-writing. For this post, I selected two collections of William Zinsser quotes. One is from Writer’s Digest and the other is from Open Culture.
