The Writing Edge for Business Writers: 10/31/14

Oct 31, 2014 | Better Writing

You’re a businessperson. You may not think of yourself as a writer, but you know that writing well can boost your results and your career. Naturally, you want to do better. Every week I point you to one or two pieces that I think will teach you something or spark an idea or two. This week I’m pointing you to pieces on blogging tools and storytelling.

From Alex Dalenberg: Blogger’s Toolkit: 9 apps I use for writing, research, writing and promotion

“Every writer is different, but here some of the tools of the trade favored by this humble blogger.”

Wally’s Comment: There’s almost always a treasure in a list like this. Check it out.

From Paul J. Zak: Why Your Brain Loves Good Storytelling

“Many business people have already discovered the power of storytelling in a practical sense – they have observed how compelling a well-constructed narrative can be. But recent scientific work is putting a much finer point on just how stories change our attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors.”

Wally’s Comment: People use stories to communicate. The better you choose what story to tell and the better you tell it, the more likely you’ll get your message across.

Sources I Check Regularly

I find the posts and articles that I share with you on The Writer’s Edge in many places. But there are a few that provide insightful pieces again and again. Here they are.
