Book recommendations for business leaders: 11/1/16

Nov 1, 2016 | Reading Lists

Stephen King says that if you want to be a writer, there are two things you must do: read a lot and write a lot. This is about the “read a lot” part. I include reading lists and book reviews that will help you do business more effectively and write better for business.

In this post I point you to information about The WOW Book by Todd Durkin, The Strategic Leaders’ Road Map: Six Steps for Integrating Leadership and Strategy by Harbir Singh and Michael Useem, and The Innovation Maze by Gijs van Wulfen.

From Michael McKinney: Todd Durkin on Leadership & People

“TODD DURKIN is one of America’s top fitness trainers helping people move beyond their perceived limits from the inside out. The principles he uses in his approach to his work are something all leaders can consider and apply. Durkin brings servant leadership to all that he does. He has been motivating others with his Word of the Week (WOW) since 2011 and has now compiled them in a single book, The WOW Book.”

From Wharton: Management 101: The Marriage of Strategy and Leadership

“After years of teaching courses in management, Wharton professors Harbir Singh and Mike Useem realized something was missing from the traditional lessons on how to be an effective manager. Most of the instruction seemed to focus on leadership or strategy, emphasizing one or the other. However, the professors contend that the best managers must possess both skills. In their new book, The Strategic Leaders’ Road Map: Six Steps for Integrating Leadership and Strategy, Singh and Useem provide a six-point checklist for managers to develop strategic thinking along with strong leadership skills. The professors visited with Knowledge@Wharton to talk about the book, which is filled with firsthand accounts from CEOs who have been there, done that.”

From Braden Kelley: Following Four Different Paths to Innovation

“I had the opportunity recently to interview fellow Innovation author Gijs van Wulfen to talk with him about his new book The Innovation Maze, which is a follow-up to his great first book The Innovation Expedition.”
