Writing Better Web Pages
Writing great web pages isn’t magic, but it isn’t luck, either. Here’s what you need for an effective web page.
The Most Important Thing to Know
People visit your web site because they want to solve a problem or answer a question. If you help them do that, they will do what you ask and buy what you’re selling.
A Good Headline
The purpose of the headline is to get the visitor to read the page. When that happens, you have a successful headline. When it doesn’t happen, your headline failed, no matter how clever you or your marketing director thought it was.
Involvement
Draw your reader into the page with copy that helps them solve that problem or answer that question. Questions and stories are great devices for doing this.
Information
Provide helpful information, hints and tips. Share facts, trends and data that your key reader will like.
Call to Action
Ask them to do something. You can ask them to contact you or buy your product or review more information. People are much more likely to do what you want if you ask them to do it.
