No matter what kind of writing you do, keeping a notebook can help you do it better. Here are just a few ways.

Capture your ideas. Ideas fly away quickly. If you capture them in a writer’s notebook, you can review them later and turn some of them into good writing.

Save those delicious phrases that other writers use. You can use them as quotes or inspiration.

Take notes on situations and people you may want to write about. The Chinese proverb is still true: “The palest ink is stronger than the strongest memory.”

Note down sources so you can use them later. Today, when so much information is on the web, this use is more important than ever.

Don’t just write these things in your notebook. Review them from time to time. Once a week is about right for me.
