Anne Tyler has had an atypical career. She’s received a Pulitzer. She’s written great stuff. But there are two things that fascinate me. For a period in her life, writing wasn’t first, kids were. When she began giving writing priority, again, she published three novels in four years.
The other thing is that Ms Tyler is one of the most disciplined writers that I’ve studied. That’s what makes this advice so fitting.
“The one ironclad rule is that I have to try. I have to walk into my writing room and pick up my pen every weekday morning.”
