Advice from the Masters: Toni Morrison

  |   Better Writing Print Friendly and PDF

Toni Morrison is known for her novels such as Sula, Song of Solomon, and Beloved. She’s won a bunch of prizes including the big ones, the Pulitzer (1988) and the Nobel Prize in Literature (1993). Click here for a detailed biography. Here’s the piece of her advice I chose for you.

“If there’s a book you really want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.”

That’s solid, succinct advice on finding a topic for your book. For business books, I’d add another variation. If you can’t find a book on your subject that you want to recommend to your clients, that’s the book you should write.
