It’s been more than a couple of decades since I heard Gordon Burgett use the term “empire builder” to describe people who turn their passion for a topic into an empire of information products and services. It’s a term of reverence for me. Jim Blasingame is an empire builder extraordinaire. Jim’s passion is small business. He is “The Small Business Advocate.”
Jim had one of the first internet radio shows, where he interviews people of all kinds who have something helpful to say to small business owners. I’ve been a guest on it, off and on, for sixteen years. He writes popular articles. He gives speeches that people love. And he writes books.
His third and latest book is The Age of the Customer: Prepare for the Moment of Relevance. It’s a thoughtful and informed look at what’s ahead and how small businesses can adapt and profit. You can read some more about how the book came to be in my post “The Story of the Age of the Customer.”
When I talked to Jim about the new book, he shared his best advice for authors and those that want to be authors. Here’s what he said.
“Don’t write about yourself.”
“The book will come when it’s ready.”
