Book recommendations for business leaders: 12/29/16

Dec 29, 2016 | Reading Lists

Stephen King says that if you want to be a writer, there are two things you must do: read a lot and write a lot. This is about the “read a lot” part. I include reading lists and book reviews that will help you do business more effectively and write better for business.

In this post, I point you to three articles on Joann Lublin’s book, Earning It: Hard-Won Lessons from Trailblazing Women at the Top of the Business World.

From Jill Priluck: Women’s Work

“Veteran journalist Joann Lublin chronicles the triumphs and travails of women rising to the C-suite.”

From George Anders: She’s In Charge, He’s On Edge; New Book Surveys The Scene

“Now Joann Lublin has written a book: Earning It: Hard-Won Lessons from Trailblazing Women at the Top of the Business World. It’s told largely through the eyes of 52 executives, including Ann Moore, former CEO of Time Inc., Clara Shih, CEO of Hearsay Social, and Dawn Lepore, former CEO of Drugstore.com. Individual chapters focus on prominent topics such as the good and bad of male mentors, the challenges of two-career couples, and the struggles for equal pay at all levels of an organization.”

From Catalyst: Q&A With The Wall Street Journal’s Joann Lublin On Her New Book, Earning It

“Joann S. Lublin is the management news editor for The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and author of Earning It: Hard-Won Lessons from Trailblazing Women at the Top of the Business World, a book best described as an in-the-trenches guide for women navigating the corporate battlefield. As one of the WSJ’s first women reporters, she faced a number of uphill challenges throughout her career. Her new book chronicles her own insights and hard-won lessons—along with those from more than 50 trailblazing executive women—all sharing valuable leadership and career advice.”
