Begin it

Nov 11, 2013 | Writing A Book

The following is a modified version of a quote often attributed to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

“What you would write, begin it.
Writing has wonder, power, and magic in it.”

Here’s the simple truth. No book that remains in your head will ever help you build your reputation. No book that remains in your head will help you sharpen your thinking or find issues you need to clarify. So start writing.

Magic will happen. You’ll discover what you know and what you don’t. You’ll discover where your reasoning is weak and where you need supporting examples and research.

Once you get your ideas and examples out of your head, you can do something with them. You can develop them or discard them. You can share them. You can sharpen your arguments against the arguments of others.

None of that will happen unless you begin to write. How about now?
