Ken Metzler was a professor of journalism at the University of Oregon for many years. He wrote several books that were used as journalism textbooks, including one about interviewing.
I didn’t know anything about Metzler or his work until I came across his name in Jack Hart’s excellent book, Storycraft: The Complete Guide to Writing Narrative Nonfiction. That’s where Hart shared this wonderful tidbit of advice, which he attributed to Metzler which is appropriate for every business book writer who wants to uncover stories for his or her book.
“To get stories, you have to tell stories.”
But wait, there’s more. I did a little digging and came up with a whole page of Professor Metzler’s interviewing tips.
